Case Study: Moving to a new place.

Why did I choose this Topic?

I wanted to specifically focus on young adults and early career individuals moving solutions. As this was a problem I and many of my peers face.

Preliminary Research:

  • Competitor Research - there is a lot of competition in the apartment finding space, but nothing specifically catering to a younger audience with features specifically geared towards them.

  • User Interviews - I recruited some of my college friends and co-workers who had recently moved and what some of their pain points and resources were.

  • Secondary Research - I looked at existing data in regard to those who move every year and what their demographics look like.

  • Using the data from my research I produced: Affinity Mapping, POV’s and HMW’s, and User Personas.

Overall, the interviews with my peers revealed there was an emotional side to all the logistics that went into the effort of moving. And that there can be a way to streamline the process a bit more.

Conclusion:

This project allowed me to address a common yet often overlooked challenge: helping young and early-career individuals navigate the complexities of moving. Through user research and iterative design, I created an app that simplifies the process, offering tailored solutions to make moving less stressful and more accessible.

By focusing on user needs, accessibility, and practical functionality, this project reinforced the importance of empathy and research-driven design. It also gave me a deeper appreciation for designing solutions that align with the unique challenges of a specific audience.
